Bursaries
The Con Moto Music Centre Ltd. Bursary Program was launched in 2026 both as a way to further our mission of improving access to music education to the communities in the Comox Valley and beyond, and as a way of paying forward the generosity that has helped us pursue music throughout our lives.
We do this by providing assistance with tuition costs associated with post secondary music education, CYMC instrument/choral music programmes, and private music lessons for children who’s families may not otherwise be able to afford them.
These bursaries are funded through proceeds from our events, the sale of our merch, as well as the sale of donated instruments*.
Bursaries are awarded to deserving students who meet the corresponding criteria.

2026/2027 Bursaries
Each bursary has its own eligibility criteria. Please read the full description of each bursary below to determine your eligibility.
Applicants may apply for any and all bursaries they are eligible for, however each applicant is only eligible to receive one bursary per academic year.
Students who received a bursary in the previous academic year are ineligible for this year’s bursaries.
Bursaries are not paid to the applicant, instead they are paid directly to the studio, qualified instructor, school, or programme.
Applicants may be required to conduct an interview and/or audition on request.
Bursaries cannot be transferred or refunded.
Late applications will not be considered.

Bursary for Post Secondary Education
Applications Open: As per school guidelines.
Application Deadline: As per school guidelines.
Amount: $1,000.00
Number of Bursaries Awarded: 1
This bursary is intended to help cover some of the tuition cost of post-secondary music education.
Applicants must:
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Be a graduating Grade 12 graduate from SD71.
Provide a letter of recommendation from a community music contact, school music teacher, private music instructor, or community ensemble director based in the Comox Valley.
Be enrolling in a Canadian College or University undergraduate level Music programme (Diploma, Bachelor Degree) or have been accepted to such a programme.

Bursary for Youth
Music Lessons
Applications Open: September 1st, 2026
Application Deadline: February 1st, 2027
Amount: $500.00
Number of Bursaries Awarded: 2
This bursary is intended to help families cover the cost of private music lessons for deserving music students who have demonstrated a love of music in the Comox Valley.
Applicants must:
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Be a full-time resident of one of the communities in the Comox Valley.
Currently be enrolled in the Comox Valley School District (SD71).
Be registered in private music lessons with a qualified instructor or studio in the Comox Valley, or be pursuing private lessons with a qualified instructor or studio in the Comox Valley.
Be passionate about music, and wish to learn music of their own volition.
Applicants may be asked to provide documentation demonstrating financial need.
CYMC Instrumental/Choral
Music Bursary
Applications Open: March 1st, 2027
Application Deadline: June 1st, 2027
Amount: 100% of programme tuition.
Number of Bursaries Awarded: 1
This bursary is intended to help families cover the cost of attending one of CYMC’s amazing instrumental/choral music programmes.
Note: The Musical Theatre Programme is not eligible for this bursary.
Applicants must:
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Be enrolled in one of this year’s CYMC’s instrumental/choral music programmes.
Be enrolled in music lessons with an instructor or studio.
Provide a letter of recommendation from a community music contact, school music teacher, private music instructor, or community ensemble director.
Submit a letter demonstrating their passion for music, what drew them to their instrument, and what their future goals with music are.
