General Studio Policies
ENROLMENT - Students may enrol in at any point in the year, and in doing so commit to all relevant lesson days in the regular lesson year or remainder thereof. The regular lesson year follows a 10 month calendar from the beginning of September to the end of the following June. Students may continue their lessons over the summer months, and may schedule them more freely. Students wishing to take July and August off from lessons may secure their spot in an upcoming lesson year with a non-refundable deposit of $100.00. This deposit will be applied to the following September’s tuition.
While lessons are open to students of all ages, it is recommended the student be able to count to 10, and both read and recite the alphabet without assistance. Students under the age of 6 will be accepted at the discretion of the Instructor.
TUITION - Tuition rates are subject to change and are set each September. Tuition is due on or before your first lesson, and may be paid in full for the year, or monthly for the lessons scheduled in a given month.
Monthly payments are due prior to the first lesson of each month, and lessons may not be conducted until tuition is paid. A valid credit card must be kept on file in order to be eligible for monthly payments.
Tuition can be paid by cash, debit card, credit card, or by Interac e-transfer to lessons@conmotomusic.com. Payments made by debit and credit card will be subject to a processing fee.
All tuition is non-refundable.
MAKE-UPS - In order to be eligible for a make-up, notice must be given prior to the scheduled start time of the lesson. Notice may be provided by phone/text to (250) 218-9044 or by email to lessons@conmotomusic.com. Lessons may also be cancelled up to 1hr prior via the student portal.
Make-up lessons may be conducted in-person, or online at the Instructor’s discretion, and are subject to availability. Make-ups must be conducted within 14 days of the original lesson, may not be taken in lieu of regular lessons, and cannot be rescheduled. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule make-ups, either by contacting us, or self-serve through the student portal.
Any lesson missed without prior notice will be considered a NO SHOW.
If a student is more than 10 minutes late to a lesson without prior notice it may be considered a NO SHOW and the remainder of the lesson forfeit.
Any lesson deemed a NO SHOW will be ineligible for a make-up, without exception. Ensembles, workshops, performances, recitals, and masterclasses are not eligible for make-ups.
ILLNESS - If a student is sick or feeling unwell, they must not attend any in-person lessons for the duration of their illness. Effected lesson(s) may be conducted online at the Instructor’s discretion, or a make-up may be scheduled.
Any student who is demonstrating symptoms of being sick or unwell will be immediately asked to leave and the lesson will be forfeit. No exceptions.
HOLIDAYS & WINTER BREAK - Winter break typically begins around the 20th-23rd of December, and runs until after New Year’s Day. Exact dates vary by year, so please contact us regarding specifics.
We are not associated with the school district calendar, so regular lessons will occur on all Pro-D days, and over Spring Break. Lessons will not be scheduled or conducted on statutory holidays and will not be charged. This includes:
New Year’s Day
Family Day
Good Friday
Victoria Day
Canada Day
B.C. Day
Labour Day
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Thanksgiving Day
Remembrance Day
Christmas Day
LESSON MATERIALS & INSTRUMENTS - Students are expected to provide their own instruments, and with the exception of piano, bring them to each lesson. Your instructor will provide a list of the materials & books you will need, as well as where you can acquire them. While your instructor may choose to provide some supplementary material without charge, lesson books/materials are not included in tuition.
If you are a beginner DO NOT purchase any books or instruments prior to discussing your needs with your instructor. This is to ensure you get the appropriate instrument for your needs.
PRACTICE OBLIGATIONS - In order to progress, daily practice is an absolute must. Practice isn’t a chore, it’s a ritual and it needs to be a regular part of your life. It shouldn’t feel like a burden or be seen as just another task to be completed.
In order to be effective, regular practice needs to be made a priority. If you are finding there is “no time” in your life to practice you either have too much on the go, or need to reevaluate if music is something you are really committed to doing. Shorter, focused practice time is more valuable than long distracted sessions, and having targeted objectives for each practice session can make your goals feel more attainable!
Ask your instructor for ideas on how to make your practice time more effective!
RECITALS - There are two recitals each year, a Winter Recital and a Spring Recital. While not required, participation in recitals is strongly encouraged for students of all ages. It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate the results of all the hard work you’ve put in over the season! Recital dates vary year to year, so ask your instructor for more information.
ENSEMBLES - Regular ensembles may require participants to audition. Auditions typically take place in August and January and audition requirements will be made available beforehand. Special ensembles may also run over the Summer season with enrolment opening in early June.
